Association of Auxiliaries
for Children Impact Report

Lisa Cole

Dear Friend,

I’m truly honored to share the combined success of our Auxiliary organizations from calendar year 2023. As you will read, we had an incredible year! I am so grateful to you for your support, and the collective efforts of each Auxiliary. We are a proud community of volunteers and philanthropists, and your passion bolsters our dedication.

I hope you enjoy reading about all we accomplished together last year and join me in jumping into 2024 with great enthusiasm! Please save the date for our annual Celebration Luncheon which will be held on April 18 at the Bing Concert Hall – invitations will be arriving in a few weeks, and I hope to celebrate in person with you.

Thank you for your continued partnership,

Lisa Cole
President, Association of Auxiliaries for Children

Honoring the past, embracing the future.

With roots in the community since 1919, when the Stanford Home for Convalescent Children opened its doors to children discharged from the Stanford-Lane Hospital in San Francisco, our support has been unwavering. We can say the rest is history, it’s also her-story.

Charter Auxiliary was the inaugural Auxiliary established to raise funds and help families pay for the care of their child at the Convalescent Home. They laid the foundation for what eventually became a hallmark of Packard Children’s mission—to provide medical care to children in need, regardless of families’ financial circumstances. Through the years, our fundraising has evolved from selling pencils at train stations and hosting fashion shows to managing the historic Allied Arts Guild property, and operating successful businesses and events – all in support of children’s health.

As we look to the future, we are motivated by our recent success and fueled by passion. We have made great strides in the past few years by:

  • Growing membership.
  • Creating a social media presence.
  • Supporting focus areas of the hospital.
  • Ensuring more direct patient impact by highlighting the Auxiliaries Endowment.

The future is filled with opportunity, and it is ours to create.

Time. Talent. Treasure.

Auxiliary members exemplify the phrase “sharing time, talent, and treasure.” Our unique structure includes six independent 501c3 organizations spanning from San Francisco to San Jose. Collectively we manage Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park, the Gift Shop at the hospital, and The Thrift Box in San Jose. Annually we conduct 18 special events. We decorate rooms for our sickest patients and make christening gowns. We provide holiday meals for patients and their families and “heart carts” for nurses who need respite during their day. We provide items for the Teen Van, breast pumps to underserved communities, and books to the community to encourage reading. We touch every corner of the hospital.

Our Legacy.

In 1999, four Auxiliary members left their estates to the hospital. The leadership of Packard Children's Hospital, the Association of Auxiliaries, and the Lucile Packard Foundation created the Auxiliaries Endowment. Initially a $7 million gift, today the endowment is valued at $33 million.

Since its inception, it has:

  • Provided more than $18 million in grant funding.
  • Supported 103 programs.
  • Created six new “sister” endowments:
    • Victoria A. Applegate supporting Social Services
    • Bereavement and Family Guidance Services
    • Chariot Program
    • Cleft and Craniofacial Center
    • Harvey J. Cohen, MD, PhD supporting Critical Clinical Programs
    • Teen Health Van

Auxiliary members are an integral part of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford’s history and have raised millions of dollars and devoted countless hours of service to support the care of children.

We are grateful for your partnership!

Preschooler Iliana, a fetal surgery champion and Summer Scamper Patient Hero, with her family and biggest supporters in the background.

Your gift to Packard Children's ensures extraordinary care today and advances research toward the cures of tomorrow. Thank You!
